Minimally Invasive Surgery
A main focus of my research and training is the improvement and promotion of minimally invasive surgery for brain operations.
Minimally invasive surgery is any procedure that is less invasive than ‘open surgery’ used for the same purpose. When there is minimal damage of biological tissues at the point of entrance of a surgical instrument, the procedure is called minimally invasive.
A minimally invasive procedure may involve and endoscope utilizing very small incisions to perform neurosurgery.
It may mean utilization of natural corridors in the brain or extended navigation techniques to minimize wounds and openings.
It may result in shorter hospital stays, better cosmetic results and less complications.
The main benefits of Minimally Invasive Surgery is that it can result in shorter hospital stays, or allow for outpatient treatment.
